Acid-Base Responsive Liquid Marbles Stabilized with Chitosan-Stearic Acid-Conjugated Particles

Liquid marble (LM) is a liquid droplet stabilized by hydrophobic solid particles. The research work of Mr. Apirak Kunanopparatn, an MSc. graduate of Green Chemistry and Sustainability (International Program), Department of Chemistry, Chulalongkorn University, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Apichat Imyim, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fuangfa Unob, and Prof. Dr. Syuji Fujii from the Department of Applied Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, 大阪工業大学(Osaka Institute of Technology), Japan, has been published in ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering with Supplementary Cover Art. In this study, pH-responsive LMs were designed using chitosan particles conjugated with stearic acid as a stabilizer, both natural materials. The use of the LMs as colorimetric sensors for amines generated during food spoilage was also demonstrated.
