Classification of Thai durian cultivars and geographical origins using fatty acid profiles

🧪 The research group led by Associate Professor Dr. Thanit Praneenararat studied the use of fatty acid profiles in durian pulp obtained from gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC–MS) to classify durian cultivars and geographical origins. 🍈

Durian samples from various provinces and cultivars such as Monthong, Chanee, and Puangmanee were analyzed. In collaboration with Associate Professor Dr. Kanet Wongravee, the data were further processed using chemometric analysis.

✅ The study found that the dataset could accurately distinguish both origin and cultivar. This method serves as a reliable tool for verifying durian authenticity and supporting GI (Geographical Indication) registration, helping to enhance market value and consumer confidence.
