Dual-label vertical-flow based electrochemical sensor for hepatitis B diagnostics

Hepatitis B infection has caused severe symptoms and fatalities around the world, so a simple and fast point-of-care diagnostics is in need. In this work, the research group of Professor Orawon Chailapakul developed an electrochemical sensor for simultaneous detection of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), common Hepatitis B biomarkers. This device utilized vertical flow of the sample solution to the electrode surface. The sensor took only 6 minutes to give an accurate result and had the very low limit of detection of 1.66 pg/mL and 5.32 pg/mL, simultaneously. This work is a result from the collaboration with Professor Dr. Pisit Tangkijvanich and Dr. Natthaya Chuaypen from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.
