February 11, 2023, students of the Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry Program, Department of Chemistry, Chulalongkorn University conducted an online workshop on the applications of NASA Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS) to 50 youth volunteers from Northern provinces of Thailand where severe air pollution is a norm during January to March every year. NASA FIRMS is helpful in monitoring fire incidents on the earth’s surface with precise time, location, and dimension.
Applications of two Interactive Science and Social Projects are part of the workshop: 1) A space-based solution for earth observation: technology transfer and building user groups of user-friendly satellite data (2022) by Kevin Yuen, Narutchai Arunrattananukul, Proud Prakopvitayakit, Tanatat Techadilok, Teerasit Saweephanlop, Thitaporn Petchpadoong; and 2) Community Fire Education in Northern Thailand (2021) by Evy Case (WPI), Alexandra Heline (WPI), Pongwiwat Kookitwattana (CU), Hezekiah Owuor (WPI), Nuttapat Pianarnupap (CU), Suppanat Suttisirikul (CU), Patiphan Suwankityindee (CU), Julia Tatone (WPI). Northern Thailand Breath Council initiated the event to engage the new generation in the fight for clean air. The Ananda Mahidol Scholarship Grantees Club, the Office of Student Affairs, Chulalongkorn University, and the Department of Chemistry, Chulalongkorn University, supported the workshop.
